All fuels, by their very nature, pose safety risks if not handled properly. This introduction shows how hydrogen compares to such commonly used fuels as natural gas, propane and gasoline. Currently, the U.S. aerospace, food, petrochemical and semiconductor industries consume more than eight million tons of hydrogen per year and they have amassed decades of experience safely using hydrogen. Systems are now being designed and tested that will allow the average person to transition to routinely filling the next generation of vehicles with hydrogen fuel.
